Concert Band
There are 4 concert bands in the Tuttle Band program. A 5th band, the 6th Grade Beginning Band, gives one performance at the end of each semester.
In 6th grade students are placed in homogeneous classes on either flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone or percussion. Selections for color instruments (oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, saxophone, horn, baritone, tuba) are made during the second semester. All classes are put together for a concert at the end of the Fall and Spring Semester. Beginning Band instructors are: Taylor Steier (Flute, Trumpet, Horn), Katie Steier (Clarinet, Saxophone, Trombone), and Audrey Johnson (Percussion, Euphonium, Tuba).
In 7th grade band, students are placed in a full band class, but are split into heterogeneous classes throughout the fall semester. Audrey Johnson conducts the 7th grade Band which performs two concerts and attends OSSAA District Band Contest. Students also perform at OSSAA District Solo and Ensemble Contest and audition for SWOBDA and Shortgrass All-Region Honor Bands.
8th Grade Band meets in one class period, but are able to perform two concerts and attend OSSAA District Band Contest. Katie Steier conducts the 8th Grade Band. Students also perform at OSSAA District Solo and Ensemble Contest and audition for SWOBDA and Shortgrass All-Region Honor Bands.
The Tiger Pride Marching Band (Grades 9-12) performs together during marching season in the Fall, then is split into 2 fully functioning concert bands the rest of the year. Both bands perform two concerts and go to OSSAA District Band Contest. Conductors are: Wind Ensemble- Taylor Steier, Symphonic Band - Katie Steier. Both bands rehearse during 1st hour and are assisted by Audrey Johnson. Both bands have consistently earned OSSAA Sweepstakes Awards.
Early emphasis is placed on behavior, citizenship, rehearsal discipline, tone production and counting (rhythm). Ensemble skills are continuously developed as the students grow. Students are encouraged to study privately, audition for All Region/All State Honor Bands and perform at Solo/Ensemble contest.
Since 2017 the Tuttle High School Band has earned 10 OSSAA Sweepstakes Awards and 2 OSSAA Accent Awards.
